New Year, New me?

I am one of those people who is HUGE on resolutions when a New Year rolls around. I don’t like to just have one HUGE one though, I like to break my resolutions down into many aspects of my life. I would rather have a list of smaller resolutions to maintain than one big one which I am bound to fail at keeping. Each Year I make a list that has some resolutions that are devised from different aspects of my life. These are some past years:

2014:

2016: Drink more water, take better care of my heart, save at least $2000, moisturize, keep a dream journal, set a sleep schedule Mon-Friday

2017: Stop lying to myself about things no matter the size. Take better care of my teeth. Keep in better contact with my family, use my gym membership at least once a week. Try and save at least $3000. Don’t make any decisions while upset, sleep on it.

For 2018 I had a very quiet New Years. I rang it in on sleeping on the couch watching Netflix. I did, however, make a huge list of things that I wanted to accomplish in 2018 in different areas of my life so here it is :

Of course, these are just a guideline and I don’t expect I will achieve every single one of them. It is nice though having a fall backlist of things to improve and add to my daily to-do list. Making these resolutions is absolutely free. What are some of your resolutions? and How do you plan on achieving them this year? Let me know in the comments below!!

Fall Essential Oils to Blend

October 1st. Day One: Fall Essential Oils to Blend.

For the past year-ish I have been doing major research on essential oils. I’ve heard about them on and off my whole life but never really thought much about them. Until my anxiety and sleeping pattern was all messed up. About a year ago a while I was perusing my Instagram search page for wellness remedies I stumbled on this incredible womans page. I crept her page hard ( no shame in my game) I found out she is one of the most inspirational women on the face of this Earth ( like honestly go creep her, check out her blog, this woman is flippin INCREDIBLE! @madisonviningblog) Anywho, this incredible human is a part of Young Living and it seems to have changed her life- ok not seemed to it has. Before you roll your eyes at me this isn’t a post about how I joined a company and am now looking for people to buy them from me or to join my team ( although I have NOTHING against people who are in that kind of business).

So, about a month ago I got my first diffuser, a variety of essential oils, and oil rollerballs from a company called ArtNaturals. I also picked up some random oils off a Young Living rep when I was researching- this is why some of the recipes have different oils. I decided to go with ArtNaturals for 5 major reasons:
1. They have VERY good morals
2. They are cruelty-free, BPA free, and eco-friendly
3. They are VERY affordable
4. They offer a great range of products
5. They are very helpful with any inquiries you may have.

As I said earlier I had done my research. I know what oils to use, when to use them, and how to use them… what I am trying to say is I scoured the internet *cough* *cough* Pinterest *couch*couch* and acquired a list of recipes for EVERYTHING- like: pain relief, illness relief, relaxation, motivation, anxiety, trouble sleeping etc. you name it I have a recipe for it.

Since this is the beginning of my Blog a day October, I thought I would give a list of Fall Themed Essential Oil Blends. If you have any questions about recipes, oils, or anything at all leave a comment or message me on Instagram @thediaryofabrokegirl
Enjoy

Course Selection & Major Realizations

sC7Lw1505238442Being a General Studies student has opened my eyes to so many different educational experiences and paths that one can take. To get a sense of where I am coming from I have been in university now off and on for around 5 years in 4 different cities. To some, this seems like I am wasting my time and money, but for me, this is what I need to do to get myself on the path that is right for me. In the time I have been in university I have been in many different courses ranging all over the educational spectrum. I didn’t always know what I wanted to do with my life and that ok. Since I have taken such a wide range of courses I have had the pleasure of meeting so many different types of people, I thought this blog could be about what courses one can take based on the type of person they see themselves as, or who they strive to be. This blog is almost fully taken from a project I did last year about freshman picking their courses while enrolled in General Studies ( major reference: thecollegejuice.com).

Depending on what school you go to will factor in if these majors, minors, or courses are available to you. This is just a list that I find easy to read to establish what courses you could be interested in. This is by no means a list of the courses you need to take to get a degree, it’s just my observation on what certain types of people take. If anyone wants to read the report I did I am more than happy to email it out. Anyways, I currently attend the University of the Fraser Valley. I am enrolled in the General Studies Bachelor program with an Aviation theme and a double minor in Business and Geography. It took me a long time to narrow down what I wanted to do, I didn’t even think twice about adding on another minor until I took a random Geography class as an elective one semester. It opened the flood gate to all the things I loved about how countries work, and why. The nice thing about university is you can always take 100 level courses to see if it’s something that interests you. I like to describe 100 level courses as buffets. You get to see first hand what the field is about. I have my major and minors figured out but I am currently taking Sociology 100 just to be curious. There is never any harm in learning.

Well-Being

With school being back in session, it’s easy to get super caught up in the swing of things. So much so that your mental health and well-being kind of just slips away. I decided to share a few things that I have incorporated into my life to help with this situation we call life. This is by no mean a cure to anything so don’t take it that way, it’s just one broke girls perspective on how to make subtle changes in your life instead of having to save up for therapy, liposuction, and whatever else will help cure the list of things that I believe are wrong with me… So here it goes:

Infused Water– So I never drink water, trust me I know how bad this is my skin informs me all the time of that. So I started reading about all the benefits of A. just water in general, and B. fruits in water… if you want to read that article it’s right hereinfued.jpg

Now I wasn’t a fan of the recipes they gave on this website, so I searched the internet AKA a I went to Pinterest, check the photo for my faves.

None of these recipes are my own so please don’t write me up for a copy right violation. This is just a small list of the waters that you can make. All you have to do it type in “infused water” into Pinterest and you’ll hit the jackpot. Just a heads up though if you plan on drinking these waters be sure to do the research on what the benefits are and what the water is meant to do. I had a very bad experience with a certain Orange-Blueberry-Mint water, which I thought would be fine to take to a uni class with me, but little to my knowledge it was a detox flush water. It was meant to be drank at home, alone.

Teas– I am a huge fan of drinking 600 coffees a day. Realizing how with combined with the no water drinking situation how bad this is for me I resorted to only drinking 300 coffees and mainly before 3:00 pm ( unless I have an exam or need to cram then I’ll take my extra 300 coffee after 3:00 pm thank you very much), but in all honestly tea also has a lot of benefits and as I have learned can very much so relax, calm, and sooth you ( hi, I’m Gillian and actual 80 year lady, trapped in a 20 something-year-old body) There is a super hand graph/photo/thing I found to help guide me to which teas do what see here…da9f74d2c3349d62b0de7ab0197b16b1

Like any other thing in the world I have my fave teas but currently, I am a sucker for Stash Dessert Teas – My local grocery store doesn’t have them all so I order them online from Amazon click here to do the same.Screenshot 2017-09-08 at 3.02.19 PM
Davids Tea is also the bomb.com for teas, loose leaf is all I drink while at school. They have way too many flavors for me to list, but I’m a sucker for their Movie Night Tea. If you are a fan of loose leaf tea look at this cute little infuser eeeeek! Buy him HERE

Essential Oils- I am new to these, as in I don’t actually have a diffuser yet, but the amount of energy I have spent researching essential oils is kind of insane, instead of writing a whole post on the benefits I will link a pretty sweet list I found HERE. I have scoured the internet to what is a good diffuser to get and where to get it etc. Young Living keeps coming up and I have 100% thought about joining but I am leaning more towards trying out the oils before signing up. So I found this one. My hopes for oils are on the line of soothing anxiety, aiding sleep, and improving my overall well-being. This is the setup I have been looking at- buy it HERE

Smoothies– I am not a huge breakfast time eater. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE BREAKFAST FOOD, just not right when I wake up. I’m a coffee gal. Wake up, whisp on some mascara, fill up an oversized mug full of that sweet bean water and call it a morning routine for me. 78483ace8d688a58cee0c3eeeaab33f8Until I got into the world of smoothies. I still drink my coffee, but now I pair it with a colourful smoothing to balance everything out. Smoothies are also one of those things that have a MILLION benefits depending on what you throw into your blender. I have been pretty stuck on my fruit smoothies, but there are tons of combinations to chose from, so find one that’s good for you and drink up 🙂

I hope you enjoyed this post, and use something on it to help your own well being 🙂
