My Thoughts on Wish

Disclaimer: These are my thoughts on wish, no one elses.

Lately, I have been seeing an abundance of posts on all different social media platforms about an app called Wish. Incase you don’t know what Wish is here is the rundown. Wish is a mobile e-commerce application based out of San Francisco.  They are currently the 6th largest e-commerce company in the world. According to the Google Play and iTunes descriptions:

Over 300 million people use Wish to get trending items for 50-80% cheaper than what you’d pay at your local mall. Join them and get the hottest products at incredible prices delivered directly to your door. Wish is the #1 shopping mall in Europe and North America, allowing you to browse a worldwide selection of trending fashion, accessories, and electronics directly at your fingertips.”

Basically, its an app and website marketplace where you can find millions of “trendy” items for extremely low prices. Items have shipping times over 3+ weeks and the quality is questionable. I am not a newb on this site. I have been a member since 2015 and ordered TONS of items.

Not until recently did I see the ads for Wish everywhere accompanied by Youtube Videos and Instagram post titled things like “ My $100 Wish Haul” and “ How I got Scammed by Wish”.  I couldn’t help but ask WTF is happening here and why I am seeing so many Wish things? So I did what any millennial would do I headed to Google and found out right quick what the dealio was. I found a ton of articles about how Wish has spent MILLIONS of dollars on advertising in the last year or so.  What was once my guilty online shopping pleasure is now a multimillion dollar company.

After reading a lot of articles and watching a LOT of YouTube videos I realised there are a lot of misconceptions about Wish out there and this is my opinion on them:

Read an article: People are shitting on this app/website about how “Obviously”  Wish is a huge sweatshop that clearly pays its employees crap?

Wish is a marketplace- just like Amazon. Vendors create accounts and sell their items on this site. Wish doesn’t produce items.

YouTube: Shit quality Items- I was scammed.

You paid under $10 for an article of clothing- WHY are you complaining? Did you think that it was going to be runway ready?

YouTube: My items are not what they showed?

Ya, this pissed me off too, but I have learned though that if you swipe over the product images you can normally see uploaded photos from customers who have bought the item before you.

Read an article: Shipping is where they get you!!!

Ya shipping prices on this site suck balls, but remember it’s normally coming from China so to make up for the like $1 you paid for a normally $40 item they need to make up for it somewhere- I guess.

There are so many more comments I could agree and disagree with- SO MANY.

I feel that Wish is such a good alternative for people who can’t afford to shop at high-end shops all the time.  I don’t have a problem spending my money on this platform at all. Another nice thing about Wish is they sell a large variety of items- I tried to order things from every category before posting this so I could really give a good review of the app/website. So now for my reviews!!

As said previously they sell a wide variety of items which they place in the following categories: Makeup & Beauty, Gadgets, Tops, Hobbies, Home Decor, Bottoms, Wallets & Bags, Baby & Kids, Watches, Sterling Silver Jewelry, Shoes, Underwear. (I only bought things that I know I would use so I skipped some categories)

Gadgets:

Dual Port Micro SD/SDXC TF To Compact Flash CF Type- works perfectly way
3.5mm Flash for Phone- exactly as the photo showed, works great.
GoPro case- way smaller than I expected, does work and good material
Camera strap- awesome! Good material exactly like photos
Pop sockets- perfect. Weird note: they keep being taken off the site then put back on.

Makeup & Beauty

Halloween Pallet/ Facepaint- surprisingly awesome paint and good size.
Cream Contour Pallet- Perfect, exactly as shown

(** I use these all the time and have ordered them multiple times, sorry for the used ones I am waiting on new ones in the mail**)

Stationary :

HP Planner- way smaller than I expected, but still exactly as described.
Stickers- amazing, great selection and all good condition.

(** The Notebook has different photos printed on pages & The Stickers are always all different I have ordered these a couple different times to check and I have only received maybe 7 repeats which is INSANE**)

Tops:

Dresses- cheaper materials, not as shown, but still wearable.
Alice in Wonderland Shirt- bathing suit like stretchy material, rides up when wearing, at type home shirt
Batman Shirt-bathing suit like stretchy material rides up when wearing, at type home shirt

(** the dresses are not pictured only because I have lent them both to a friend for a wedding.**)

Bottoms-

Batman Leggings- bathing suit like material
Alice in Wonderland Leggings- bathing suit like material
Batman Skirt- bathing suit like material a little thicker than the others

Jewelry( old category) :

Mad hatter necklace- shit metal martial, turns neck green. Great for one day wears.
World Watch with Airplane- cheap material, no battery.
Airplane bracelet- awesome love it. Wear all the time.

This website/app is definitely buyer beware. I recommend trying it out and giving it your own opinion since you can see based on my reviews items are very hit and miss. Just remember that shipping can be pretty pricey and items can take a LONG time to get to you.

All items I mentioned in this review are linked here:
Flash
Go Pro Case
CF Adapter
Camer Strap
Pop Sockets
Halloween Pallet
Cream Contour
Harry Potter Planner
Stickers

Dresses—> both the dresses I bought are no longer listed I will edit this post when I get them back and post photos.

October Photo Challenge

October Photo Challenge

At the beginning of the month, I started an Instagram challenge. I have never done one before so I was pretty nervous that no one would take part in it. Lo and behold a few people have actually been uploading daily with me. I seriously thought that it would just be me posting on my two accounts-lol. I wanted to dedicate this daily blog to my October Instagram Challenge (which if you are not taking part in COME TAKE PART- it’s on Instagram and a quick search of #dbgchallenge and you can find it.)  ANYWHO this blog is about the questions I have got about it and the how-to guide.

Questions:

Why? I have received this question a few times. Which I find kind of weird… because I wanted too?lol.

How did you come up with the daily theme? I went through old challenges I have done on Instagram ( around 5) and tried to take my favourite daily themes from them, and also add in my own that I thought were more Fall-ish

Why October? October is my favourite month, I love when the weather gets cooler, the leaves start to change, and Thanksgiving is here AND HALLOWEEN.

Can you send reminders? I can try and tag people in my posts when I post my photos on either ( @thediaryofabrokegirl or @gilliebean14)

What happens if I can’t make a day? NOTHING! That’s the beauty of a challenge like this, there are no consequences for missing or skipping a day! It’s all for fun, to showcase your work and it’s super cool to see how different people’s minds work when they are given a word to theme their photos with. ( for example- theme word: Old. Some people went with old products, some people went with throwbacks-cool!!!!!)

Aren’t you worried about your theme? NO, mainly because I don’t have one. If you are worried about your theme post one in your story, or post and delete them after the challenge? OR take the photos and post them somewhere else with the # so I can see them?

What if I can’t think of something for the daily trigger word? Go to other places for inspiration! If I am having a hard time I turn to other places for inspiration all the time. Instagram, Pinterest, Google… just type in the hashtag and see what comes up.

What does the hashtag mean? #dbgchallenge is simply just the first letter of some of my website the Diary of a Broke Girl and challenge.

How to make a challenge:

Pick a word for every day of the month- these words will be the theme of the daily photo.

Pick a Hashtag- so you can find all the challenges! Also, try and pick something that has some meaning to you, and plop “challenge” after it.

Compile it into a visual guide, so people can refer to it.

Pick what platform you want to post it on ( Instagram is the easiest for photos)

Tell your friends, post to social media.

Post your visual guide ( either the day before it starts or the first day!)

Enjoy xo.

Theatres will also be packed with new release horror movies.  I toyed with the idea of doing a review a day of the horror movies of 2016-2017 but kiboshed that idea when remembered how much fun I had doing the horror-movie-a-day last October ( that list can be found here). I decided to put together a calendar of my fave cult classics, creepy thrillers

Fall Essential Oils to Blend

October 1st. Day One: Fall Essential Oils to Blend.

For the past year-ish I have been doing major research on essential oils. I’ve heard about them on and off my whole life but never really thought much about them. Until my anxiety and sleeping pattern was all messed up. About a year ago a while I was perusing my Instagram search page for wellness remedies I stumbled on this incredible womans page. I crept her page hard ( no shame in my game) I found out she is one of the most inspirational women on the face of this Earth ( like honestly go creep her, check out her blog, this woman is flippin INCREDIBLE! @madisonviningblog) Anywho, this incredible human is a part of Young Living and it seems to have changed her life- ok not seemed to it has. Before you roll your eyes at me this isn’t a post about how I joined a company and am now looking for people to buy them from me or to join my team ( although I have NOTHING against people who are in that kind of business).

So, about a month ago I got my first diffuser, a variety of essential oils, and oil rollerballs from a company called ArtNaturals. I also picked up some random oils off a Young Living rep when I was researching- this is why some of the recipes have different oils. I decided to go with ArtNaturals for 5 major reasons:
1. They have VERY good morals
2. They are cruelty-free, BPA free, and eco-friendly
3. They are VERY affordable
4. They offer a great range of products
5. They are very helpful with any inquiries you may have.

As I said earlier I had done my research. I know what oils to use, when to use them, and how to use them… what I am trying to say is I scoured the internet *cough* *cough* Pinterest *couch*couch* and acquired a list of recipes for EVERYTHING- like: pain relief, illness relief, relaxation, motivation, anxiety, trouble sleeping etc. you name it I have a recipe for it.

Since this is the beginning of my Blog a day October, I thought I would give a list of Fall Themed Essential Oil Blends. If you have any questions about recipes, oils, or anything at all leave a comment or message me on Instagram @thediaryofabrokegirl
Enjoy
